Philosophy

The philosophy that serves as the foundation for Generation One is that of ‘match’ or ‘fit’.

A good college match has four components:

Academics: is the school attainable with your academic credentials AND is the academic atmosphere a match for how you want to approach college? For example, do you thrive in a highly competitive environment or would you rather learn in a more collaborative environment? We will start here with your high school transcript, grades, GPA, and testing to establish a balanced college list.

Social: do you enjoy big football games on Saturdays or might we find you in the theatre - or both? Can you see yourself in a school with a robust social and/or Greek scene or would you prefer a more laid-back atmosphere? We will discuss which factors are important to you and create a college list accordingly.

Financial: is this college affordable for you and/or your family? Will you incur debt to attend this college? Let’s discuss how finances will impact your college search and ultimate choice of where to attend. We can review all of your financial offers and critically examine what’s possible for you and your family.

Geographic: how far would you like to be from home? Would it be a financial hardship for you to drive long distances or fly home, if needed? Does your budget for college include travel funds? Would you like to be where it’s warm most of the year or where you can enjoy winter sports? Let’s talk about your preferences in this area to focus on which parts of the country, or the world, interest you.
